winter festival 2024 songbook
sing ye all together
I made these song books for a community event some friends and I put on in December of 2024 called Winter Festival. It was an experimental mix of fun and games, exploring European winter folk traditions, fundraising for marginalized loved ones locally and abroad, food, music, dance, and participatory seasonal ritual. The song books were a fun extra thing I created as party favors and for whoever wanted to sing together at the event- hopefully they will be of service in that context for many more years, as we hope to make Winter Festival an annual celebration and community fundraiser. However, there are so many great songs, both new and traditional-some well known, some not as much- that I wanted to share them around in other ways as well. If you’re seeing this page, however the song book found you, welcome!
Below you will find some images from the book, and a playlist of links to (mainly professional recording artists’) recordings of the songs. There may be one or two I don’t have recordings for, and if that is the case I will try to make my own and link them here soon. The lyrics in the song book may also differ from the recordings; there are often many versions of traditional songs, and there are a couple I have also lightly adapted or cobbled together from multiple versions.
The song books and this curation of recording links are DIY, non-professional, and only used for gifting and fundraising purposes. I ask that you sing and share them in the spirit of community service and collective liberation, and support the artists whose songs and recordings you love. Please enjoy, share with your loved ones, and then email me and tell me which songs are your favorites!
blessings,
